Position overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated Intermediate Building Physics Engineer to join our team. This role is ideal for a 3+ years experienced professional with a background in energy assessment, building physics, and sustainable design, looking to advance their career in building performance analysis. The successful candidate will support energy modeling, compliance assessments, and sustainable design strategies for a variety of commercial and office interior projects.

As an Intermediate building physics engineer, you will collaborate closely with senior energy consultants, sustainability specialists, and design engineers, ensuring compliance with UK and international energy standards while contributing to Net Zero and decarbonization goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct operational and compliance-based energy assessments for commercial and office buildings.
  • Develop dynamic energy models using IES VE, DesignBuilder, EnergyPlus, or equivalent software.
  • Support Part L compliance assessments, EPC calculations, and TM54 operational energy modeling.
  • Assist in evaluating energy efficiency strategies, passive design approaches, and HVAC system performance.
  • Perform daylighting analysis, overheating risk assessments, and thermal comfort studies.
  • Work with sustainability teams to support LEED, and BREEAM certification processes.
  • Provide data-driven insights to enhance energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
  • Keep up to date with UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard, CIBSE TM59, TM52, TM54, and ASHRAE 90.1.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports and presentations to communicate energy assessment findings to clients and project teams.
  • Collaborate with design engineers, architects, and sustainability consultants to optimize building energy performance.
Qualifications & Key Competencies

Technical Expertise:

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in building physics, energy modeling, and thermal performance analysis.
  • Conduct operational and compliance-based energy assessments for commercial and office buildings.
  • Develop dynamic energy models using IES VE, DesignBuilder, EnergyPlus, or equivalent software.
  • Support Part L compliance assessments, EPC calculations, and TM54 operational energy modeling.
  • Assist in evaluating energy efficiency strategies, passive design approaches, and HVAC system performance.

Project & Team Support:

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary project teams within the built environment sector.
  • Ability to assist senior team members in delivering high-quality energy assessments within deadlines.

Software & Digital Tools Proficiency:

  • Essential: IES VE, EnergyPlus, DesignBuilder
  • Preferred: Rhino + Grasshopper (Ladybug & Honeybee), TAS, OpenStudio, Python for automation, CFD software (e.g., Ansys Fluent, OpenFOAM, Autodesk CFD)

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Building Physics, Energy Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng), Low Carbon Energy Assessor, or equivalent certification.
  • Professional accreditations such as LEED AP, WELL AP, CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant (LCC), or BREEAM Assessor are desirable
