Short-term Consultant: Financial Inclusion for Youth Specialist

IFC is seeking a senior consultant to support the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) advisory program operations in Latin America & the Caribbean (LAC). The consultant will work in close collaboration with and report directly to the Gender and Youth team lead and indirectly to the IFC LAC FIG Upstream Advisory Services Manager, while interacting with Project Leaders and Senior Specialists with a focus on Gender, Youth and Inclusion. Some travel may be required.

SCOPE OF WORK:

The consultant will support the Upstream Advisory team in business development efforts and the implementation of projects with financial institutions in the LAC region with a focus on Youth and Gender. This is a short-term position with the possibility of extension based on performance and business needs. The activities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Project Design: The STC is expected to assist in all activities related to the project, in particular, value proposition design (i.e.: sharing market knowledge and existing references, defining project activities, aligning scope of work, setting up monitoring and evaluation framework, etc.), ensuring all steps in IFC project cycle are fulfilled in a timely manner.
  2. Project Management and Implementation: The STC will play a pivotal role in sharing expertise and implementing the program, its components, its planned activities (trainings at the sectoral level). This can include: gathering of insights from internal and external experts on relevant topics, preparation activities for meetings/missions/trainings, sharing background research on market and client related issues, collecting and analyzing quantitative and financial information, helping to develop client deliverables, following the adequate project staffing, as well as other related project activities.
  3. New Business Development Support: The STC will help the team in developing a pipeline of advisory clients aligned with the Youth Segment strategy. As part of this work, the STC will assist in conducting market research, analyzing supporting information, analyzing financial trends, drafting high-impact client proposals, and delivering pitch presentations, and designing project structure as determined by client needs, drafting tentative budgets and timelines, etc.

QUALIFICATION CRITERIA

  • Master's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, International Development, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant working experience in consulting in gender and/or inclusion.
  • Youth Segment projects hands-on experience shall be considered a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience in the design, preparation, and implementation of consulting projects, with ability to coordinate internal and external tasks, ensuring effective communication among all stakeholders and maintaining coherence in the envisioned work.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of financial inclusion challenges, financial sector development in emerging markets, and digital finance trends, business planning, work programming, and project management.
  • Relevant experience in writing reports and drafting high-impact presentations.
  • Self-starter with ability to problem solve, work independently on routine issues, organize, and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work under pressure, tight deadlines and have flexibility in handling a variety of concurrent tasks, while keeping attention to detail and producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to synthesize and present information in an insightful and structured way, applying different and new approaches to facilitate the managerial decision-making processes.
  • Familiarity with human-centered design and design thinking is a plus, as well as qualitative analysis skills, including market research.
  • Capacity to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural and fast changing environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish. Portuguese is considered a plus.
  • Strong computing skills (proficiency required in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Practical knowledge or experience using virtual collaborative working tools (Miro, Mural, Trello, etc.) is a plus.
  • Good attitude; self-starter; dynamic, committed, and accountable.
  • Result-oriented individual with high attention to detail.

Contract details and next steps

This is a short-term consulting position for a 150 days contract (paid at the STC3 level) beginning in March 2025, with the possibility of renewal based on performance. The application deadline is March 12, 2025.
