As part of the centralization and standardization of risk management activities, the BCO performs Business Control functions for Wholesale Banking, including but not limited to the implementation of control standards, risk assessments, key control monitoring, and evaluation activities. This supports the Wholesale Banking branches and representative offices, ensuring the entity remains safe, in control, and able to demonstrate compliance to the company, regulators, and the external world.

BCO interacts with senior management and stakeholders across different locations and departments, reporting to the BCO Expert Lead.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide advice and support to the Wholesale Banking business and locations regarding 1st line Business Control and Non-Financial Risk (NFR) management, including risk assessments, risk mitigation, issue tracking, control execution, and quality assessment.
  2. Identify and flag risks, assisting in the implementation of risk-mitigating measures with management and stakeholders.
  3. Serve as an expert contact and sparring partner for stakeholders.
  4. Promote risk awareness by making non-financial risks and 1st line controls understandable and accessible to management and involved parties.
  5. Coordinate with Control Owners to ensure effective implementation and execution of controls, including risk mitigation in relevant business processes.
  6. Plan and align regional or local implementation activities with Head Office requirements, considering regional and local capacity and needs.
  7. Monitor implementation progress and report to local management and regional/global Risk and Control functions, addressing any roadblocks.
  8. Work on centrally identified risks related to Key Controls and facilitate necessary Risk Assessments in line with the NFR Risk Identification & Assessment (RIA) Procedure.
  9. Track progress of Risk Assessment completion, report to relevant parties, and follow up on any implementation issues.
