About the Role

As a Portfolio Analyst , you will be at the heart of how 1882EV builds conviction for new ventures and strengthens its new builds and portfolio strategy. Your job is to make sure we are “the smartest in the room” when it comes to spotting opportunities, learning from failures, and mapping where the future of energy and climate innovation is headed.

You will collate insights from our venture portfolio and new build teams, track what global VCs, venture studios and startups are doing, and constantly update our problem sets. You’ll dig into Southeast Asia and Global South markets, identify which contexts are most comparable to the Philippines, and keep an eye on exemplars that can inspire or warn us.

This is a role for someone early in their career but passionate about startups, the energy transition, and the venture capital world . You’ll help shape the strategy that guides where we build next.

• Collect insights from venture portfolio and new build teams, making sure lessons are captured and shared.
• Turn messy field learnings into structured knowledge assets for the studio.
• Track Venture studios and VCs active in climate and energy transition, mapping their investments and theses.
• Identify global exemplars (successful and failed) and keep a living database of startups, funding rounds, and market moves.
• Monitor policy, regulatory, and financing shifts in Southeast Asia and the Global South.
• Continuously update and refine the problem sets 1882EV is exploring, based on market signals and portfolio insights.
• Spot patterns and overlaps between challenges in the Philippines and other emerging markets.
• Create briefs, research notes, and internal reports to support investment and venture-building decisions.
• Provide inputs for portfolio reviews, venture validation exercises, and strategic workshops.

• 3–5 years of experience in research, consulting, venture building, investment, or related fields
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Political Science, or related field.
• Strong research and writing skills; comfortable working with both qualitative and quantitative data.
• Curiosity about startups, VC investing, and the energy transition.
• Organized, systematic, and able to build simple frameworks out of complex information.
• Experience with research tools, databases, and/or knowledge management platforms a plus
• Deeply analytical - with the ability to synthesize disparate data points and uncover non-obvious, actionable insights
