About the role This role suits a hands‑on, detail‑driven accountant who can work independently, maintain accurate ledgers, manage payroll, cash flow, and critically interpret the numbers to help management make better business decisions. Key Responsibilities Bookkeeping & Reconciliations Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date financial records in Xero for all entities. Perform regular bank, credit card, and loan account reconciliations. Reconcile inter‑entity transactions and maintain a clean general ledger. Accounts Payable (Suppliers & Contractors) Process and schedule supplier and contractor invoices for payment. Reconcile supplier statements monthly and maintain positive relationships. Accounts Receivable (Customer Billing & Collections) Review daily job logs from GeoOp and ensure all completed jobs are invoiced correctly. Send invoices promptly and manage debtor follow‑ups on overdue accounts. Maintain an accurate aged receivables ledger and report on collection trends. Payroll & Contractor Management Process fortnightly payroll in compliance with Australian award rules. Reconcile PAYG, superannuation, and leave balances. Maintain employee and contractor payment records. Balance Sheet, Assets & Back‑End Financial Control Maintain a clean, reconciled balance sheet each month. Manage the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals, and transfers. Manage prepayments, accruals, and provisions to ensure accurate monthly reporting. BAS / IAS Preparation & Compliance Prepare monthly IAS and quarterly BAS for review and lodgement by the Australian BAS agent. Ensure GST and PAYG data is accurate and reconciled. Monitor ATO correspondence and ensure timely compliance with all reporting deadlines. Financial & Operational Reporting Produce weekly cash‑flow forecasts and monthly management reports (P&L, balance sheet, aged payables/receivables). Conduct variance analysis to identify overspend, cost‑saving opportunities, and inefficiencies. Provide concise written commentary and actionable recommendations for management decisions. Audit & Year‑End Support Prepare reconciliations and schedules for annual audit and EOFY processes. Liaise with external accountants and auditors, ensuring all queries are answered promptly. Qualifications / Skills Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent qualification. Minimum 3+ years’ experience with Australian clients or accounting firms. Advanced proficiency in Xero, including fixed asset register, payroll, and reporting. Deep understanding of Australian BAS, GST, PAYG, and Superannuation compliance. Proven experience managing balance sheets, dividends, and inter‑entity accounts. Strong command of accounts payable, receivable, and reconciliation processes. Demonstrated ability to interpret financial data and provide management insights. Experience in analysing technician utilisation, discounting, cancellations, and service profitability. High accuracy, initiative, and strong analytical communication skills. Able to work independently with minimal supervision and proactively flag financial risks or opportunities.
