Overview

The Laboratory Manager plays a key leadership role in ensuring the efficient management and continuous improvement of Clinical Laboratory operations.

Responsibilities
  • Implement policies and guidelines consistently across all units under supervision, including the fair and proper enforcement of disciplinary actions.
  • Directly supervise, mentor, and coach Unit Heads and Officers in managing their teams, monitor unit performance, and ensure effective utilization of allocated budgets.
  • Oversee the professional growth and performance of all laboratory personnel; serve as the main point of contact for staff on internal tasks and technical issues; regularly meet with Unit Heads to review concerns.
  • Escalate matters requiring higher-level decisions to the Senior Manager for Clinical Laboratory Operations; evaluate and recommend new instruments and technologies to strengthen laboratory capabilities; collaborate with Unit Heads, Officers, and the Senior Manager to formulate or enhance laboratory policies, guidelines, and investment plans.
  • Ensure proper documentation and updating of laboratory procedures; ensure job descriptions for Clinical Laboratory personnel remain accurate and up to date.
  • May be assigned other duties as required by the immediate superior, aligned with the responsibilities and proficiency expected of the role.
Qualifications
  • A graduate and licensed Medical Technologist, preferably with additional certifications in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in clinical laboratory operations in hospital settings, including a minimum of 3–5 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  • Proven expertise in policy implementation, process improvement, and managing laboratory accreditation and compliance requirements.
  • Flexibility and commitment with the ability to work onsite as part of a prestigious hospital.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of clinical laboratory standards, quality control, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills, including mentoring and developing staff.
  • Proficiency in laboratory information systems, documentation, and report preparation.
  • Ability to evaluate and recommend laboratory instruments, equipment, and new technologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders (e.g., clients, hospitals, regulatory bodies).
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to continuous improvement.
