About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Fullstack Engineer with strong backend expertise who thrives in high-ownership environments and is excited about AI-enhanced development workflows. Working closely with our Lead Engineer and reporting to the CTO, you will focus primarily on building robust backend systems while contributing to frontend experiences when needed. You will help integrate AI/LLM capabilities (Claude, Gemini) into our platform and work directly with our product and design teams to ship solutions that matter to our customers. This role is ideal for a backend-focused engineer who wants to expand their fullstack skills while leading the development of scalable Ruby on Rails APIs, data processing systems, and AI-powered features that transform how organizations understand their teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Build robust backend systems: Design and implement scalable Ruby on Rails APIs, background processing systems (Sidekiq), and data workflows powering the AI-driven insights platform
• Lead AI integration: Implement AI/LLM capabilities into backend services, creating intelligent data processing pipelines and automated workflow systems
• Architect data solutions: Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, queries, and data models supporting complex analytics and reporting
• Develop AI-enhanced features: Build backend services that leverage AI planning agents and context-engineered development processes to deliver intelligent workplace insights
• Optimize performance: Identify and resolve bottlenecks in backend systems, database queries, and API performance for scalable growth
• Collaborate across the stack: Work with frontend engineers to design clean API contracts and contribute to Next.js experiences when needed
• Champion backend best practices: Implement testing (RSpec), monitoring, and deployment practices while leveraging AI-assisted development tools
• Mentor and learn: Share backend expertise with the team and learn AI-driven development methodologies such as BMAD Method
• Drive technical decisions: Contribute to architectural discussions and technical strategy for Ruby on Rails backend, PostgreSQL data layer, and AWS infrastructure

Requirements

• 4–6 years of professional software development with a strong backend focus, particularly in Ruby on Rails
• Solid fullstack foundation: Experience with modern frontend frameworks (Next.js/React preferred) and ability to contribute across the stack
• Strong backend expertise: Deep understanding of API design, background processing, database optimization, and scalable architecture
• AI-curious mindset: Interest in AI-assisted development workflows and willingness to learn BMAD or similar AI-enhanced approaches
• Experience with PostgreSQL, complex queries, database design, and performance optimization
• Comfortable with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), containerization (Docker), and modern deployment practices
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills for backend issues and performance optimization
• Collaborative approach in cross-functional teams with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers
• Growth mindset: Proven ability to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving development practices, especially AI-enhanced workflows
• Startup or small team experience with ownership of significant backend systems and features

Nice to have

• AI/LLM integration experience: Claude, GPT, Gemini, or similar AI services in production
• Advanced Rails expertise: Complex Rails applications, multi-tenant architectures, or event-driven systems
• Background processing at scale with Sidekiq, Redis, or similar
• Monitoring and observability tools (APM, logging, metrics) for production systems
• Authentication/authorization knowledge, security best practices, and compliance requirements
• Data pipeline experience: ETL, data transformation, or analytics-focused backends
• Interest in employee wellbeing and workplace psychology and how tech supports insights
