Job Description

Purpose of the position: The department of Political Studies and International Relations is seeking to appoint two new lecturers with particular interest in Political Studies and International Relations. The lecturers are expected to contribute in Teaching & Learning, Research & Innovation and Community Engagement and possible supervision of students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and learning
  • Teaching and administering of examination of allocated modules
  • Research and innovation: to complete doctoral programme and publish one journal article in DHET accredited journals
  • Community engagement: effective participation in community development projects
Lecturer Minimum Requirements
  • A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Political Science/ International Relations
  • A minimum of 1 year of teaching and learning experience
  • A minimum of 1 year of research & innovation experience
  • A minimum of 1 year of community engagement experience
Recommendations / Added Advantages
  • Registration with the South African Association of Political Studies (SAAPS)
Key Functional/ Technical Competencies
  • Depth and breadth of specialist knowledge in political science or international relations to teach and support learning
  • Consistent track record of excellent teaching across modules and levels
  • At least one year of post-qualification university teaching experience with evidence of scholarship (publications in academic journals)
  • Involvement in community engagement initiatives
Behavioural Competencies
  • Evidence of publication in reputable journals and conference proceedings
  • Experience teaching honours and undergraduates and supervising honours research projects
  • Ability to recruit students and maintain relations with local stakeholders
  • Representing the department in committees or administrative meetings
  • Strong scholarly publications in Political Science or International Relations
Remuneration

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment and in line with NWU policy guidelines.
