OverviewPosition: Senior Lecturer (Peromnes Grade: A7) – NWU Mahikeng Campus, Faculty of Law
Contract: Permanent
Location: Mafikeng, Capital City
Remuneration: The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with NWU policy guidelines.
About Our Company: North-West University (NWU), Mahikeng Campus
Purpose of the PositionInvolved in teaching and learning (undergraduate and postgraduate programmes); research aligned with the faculty’s focus areas; postgraduate supervision (where applicable); community service and related activities.
Key Responsibilities- Teaching and learning at the undergraduate level, including supervision of LLB dissertations. Involvement at the postgraduate level, including supervision, critical reading, examination, moderation, and other required responsibilities.
- Research and Innovation: Conducting own research aligned with the faculty's focus areas. Produce creative research outputs appropriate to the level of appointment, including publications, conference attendance and presentations, workshops and colloquia.
- Academic leadership, management and administration/university service: Involvement in administrative and management responsibilities; participate in leadership roles within the faculty; serve on faculty committees and contribute to university structures.
- Community and scientific Engagement/Social responsiveness: Share expertise and engage with the scientific community; community engagement and social cohesion activities, media commentary, and promoting the university’s image and internationalisation.
- Occupational Health and Safety (OHS): Adhere to OHS standards and policies; participate in OHS committees as required.
- A PhD (NQF level 10) in Law or a PhD/DPhil in Law (NQF level 10).
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in academia.
- OR a master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Law with a minimum of five (5) years’ post-admission practical legal experience in private practice or seven (7) years in public prosecution; active involvement in research with publications in accredited journals.
- Proven record of effective postgraduate supervision, including successful supervision of an LLM student.
- Academic leadership and management experience.
- Preference for candidates with expertise in teaching-learning and research in public/private/mercantile law; others will be considered.
- Excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching; social responsiveness and community engagement.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in legal language.
- Computer literacy: MS Office, email, internet, and access to legal sources.
- Knowledge of modern learning platforms (e.g., whiteboard tech, eFundi) to support learning and collaboration.
- Curriculum design, development, and review skills; adaptability and agility.
- Strong research skills, including funding applications and supervision of UG/PG students.
- Ability to work effectively in multilingual environments at NWU.
- Good interpersonal relations and ability to work with large groups.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; good report writing skills.
- Highly motivated, self-driven, independent; good planning and time management; professional and ethical conduct.
