Job Description: Vice President for Operations

Position Overview

The Vice President for Operations (VP of Ops) will oversee the day-to-day operations of the company’s construction projects, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and high-quality delivery. This role will also establish operational systems and strengthen HR processes to support scaling. The VP of Ops will serve as a key member of the executive team, reporting directly to the President/CEO.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee and coordinate all ongoing construction projects.
  • Establish and enforce companywide standards for project execution, safety, and quality.
  • Monitor budgets, schedules, manpower allocation, and procurement efficiency.
  • Lead recovery planning and risk management for projects encountered delays or cost overruns.

Strategic Growth

  • Translate the CEO’s vision into operational systems and processes that can scale across multiple projects.
  • Develop KPIs for project and department performance (engineering, procurement, HR/Admin).
  • Drive continuous improvement in cost control, productivity, and resource utilization.

People & HR

  • Strengthen the HR/Admin structure; help design recruitment systems to address talent bottlenecks.
  • Mentor department heads (engineering, procurement, HR/Admin) and project managers.
  • Build leadership bench strength to support future expansion.

Client & Stakeholder Relations

  • Act as the operational point person in dealings with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure contractual obligations are met while protecting company interests.
  • Support business development with technical/operational inputs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 8+ years of progressive leadership experience in construction operations, with at least 5 years at a senior management level.
  • Strong background in project management, cost control, and contract administration.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Track record of scaling operations in a mid-to-large construction company.
Priority Deliverables
  • Standardize reporting and monitoring system across all projects.
  • Reduce delays and unplanned costs by establishing clear escalation protocols.
  • Close coordination with HR for onboarding of key functional heads (engineering, procurement, HR).
  • Improve project margin and on-time delivery rates by measurable percentage.
