Research Scientist, LLM Model Evaluation (Seed), PhD Graduates - 2025 Start Location: San Jose Team: Technology Employment Type: Regular Job Code: A76646A About the Team ByteDance Seed team is dedicated to discovering new approaches to general intelligence and pushing the boundaries of AI. Since its establishment in 2023, the team has released industry‑leading general‑purpose large models and advanced multimodal capabilities, powering over 50 real‑world applications. Responsibilities Explore the intrinsic consistency of models across pre‑training and post‑training stages, and predict LLM performance limits. Design better evaluation methods based on internal mechanisms of models, with a focus on interpretability. Design and develop novel benchmarks to systematically evaluate model capabilities and support the formalization of AGI definitions. Conduct red teaming from an evaluation perspective to identify model limitations and propose targeted improvements. Define the necessary evaluation standards to explore next‑generation models and intelligent applications, such as Agent Foundation Models and DeepResearch. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to apply first‑principles thinking and approach complex problems from a foundational perspective. Strong interest in model evaluation methodologies and contributing to the conceptual development of AGI. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in large‑scale model training or evaluation, with relevant paper publications as a strong plus. Compensation The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $187,040 - $438,000 annually. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses or incentives, and restricted stock units. Benefits Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short‑term and long‑term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
