Job Description

HVAC Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Install new HVAC systems, including ductwork, wiring, piping, and controls, following technical manuals and blueprints.
  • Conduct system testing and commissioning to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.
  • Calibrate thermostats, sensors, and other system controls.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment (chillers, air handling units, split systems, exhaust fans, etc.).
  • Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Repair or replace defective parts such as motors, compressors, fans, and valves.
  • Ensure systems are compliant with local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.
  • Monitor HVAC system performance, detect abnormalities, and recommend improvements.
  • Test refrigerant levels and recharge systems as required.
  • Ensure proper airflow, ventilation, and indoor air quality standards.
  • Record maintenance logs, service reports, and system performance data.
  • Adhere to OSHA, ASHRAE, and local regulatory standards.
  • Follow safety procedures when handling refrigerants, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, supervisors, and team members regarding system status and repair needs.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior technicians as needed.
  • Respond promptly to emergency service calls, including nights/weekends (if required).

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Diploma/Certificate in HVAC Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 2–5 years of hands-on HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair experience.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of HVAC systems (chillers, VRF/VRV systems, split units, AHUs, FCUs). Proficiency with HVAC diagnostic tools and instruments (multimeters, gauges, airflow meters). Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Good communication and customer service abilities. Ability to work independently and in a team. Time management and organizational skills.
