The Nurse Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations, improvements, and enhancements of clinical nursing services within the nursing home to ensure safe, high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective care is delivered to residents and their families. He/she will oversee a team of registered and enrolled nurses, nursing aides, and healthcare assistants. Additionally, he/she will collaborate with multi-disciplinary care providers such as occupational therapists, physiotherapists, medical social workers, clinical counsellors, and others.

Professional Roles
  1. Coordinate teamwork in total resident care with the care staff, delivering quality service to residents, relatives, and visitors.
  2. Identify needs for improvement in service delivery and standards of care by maintaining direct contact and involvement in residents’ care.
  3. Develop and support team building among care staff during daily operations, ensuring effective and cooperative working relationships.
  4. Evaluate and maintain service standards by conducting regular meetings, team discussions, clinical training, guidance, orientation, re-organization in nursing functions and work processes, policies, and procedures.
  5. Demonstrate problem-solving skills to resolve issues/conflicts among care staff, residents, or their family members. Ensure effective and efficient management of staff resources, equipment, and materials related to resident care and the home.
  6. Interpret policies, procedures, objectives, and standards to motivate staff to perform optimally in daily operations.
  7. Maintain direct resident contact to identify needs for service improvement and uphold standards of care.
Quality
  1. Coordinate, manage, and evaluate the home’s services to ensure high standards of nursing care and resident safety are maintained at all times, in accordance with legal, professional, and nursing home requirements.
  2. Participate as a member of the health team by attending relevant ward rounds, meetings, and team conferences, and engaging in discussions on resident-related issues.
  3. Maintain self-development through continuing education.
Training and Development
  1. Attend meet-ups with AIC, MOH, and other stakeholders to ensure the quality, standards, and guidelines of the nursing home are maintained and enhanced.
  2. Collaborate with the Nurse Educator to identify staff training needs.
  3. Work with students and undergraduates on projects and experiential learning in geriatric settings.
Administration
  1. Assess and coordinate residents’ admission referrals and discharges from hospitalization.
  2. Oversee staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage for quality nursing care.
  3. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  4. Supervise, evaluate, and discipline staff performance within scope of responsibility.
  5. Assess educational and appraisal needs of employees in collaboration with ADON and Registered Nurses.
