Overview

Job Title: Research Assistant (Licensed Chemist)

Role: Academic Researcher & Associate Director @ University of Santo Tomas | Project Management

Project: Heritage Science Research Project

Location: University of Santo Tomas

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the conduct of laboratory experiments and analyses related to materials characterization and cultural heritage conservation.
  • Perform instrumental and chemical analyses of samples (e.g., pigments, binders, varnishes, and elemental components).
  • Prepare, document, and maintain accurate records of experimental data and results.
  • Support the research team in sample handling, preparation, and proper laboratory protocols.
  • Contribute to literature review, data interpretation, and preparation of technical reports or presentations.
  • Coordinate with the project team during fieldwork, including ocular visits, sample collection, and stakeholder interviews, when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety and ethical research standards.
Qualifications
  • Licensed Chemist (PRC board passer; active license).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or closely related field.
  • Strong background in analytical chemistry; familiarity with techniques such as SEM-EDX, XRF, FTIR, or related instrumentation is an advantage.
  • Keen interest in cultural heritage science, materials conservation, or interdisciplinary research.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Open to learning new laboratory and research methods.
