The Finance Officer is a key member of NYLI’s operations team, responsible for managing the organization’s day-to-day financial transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, and preparing timely reports to support transparency and accountability. This is a generalist role suited for a professional who is detail-oriented, organized, and committed to strengthening financial systems in a non-profit setting.

Major Responsibilities

Bookkeeping and Financial Management

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all financial transactions using appropriate accounting software and systems.
  • Record receipts, disbursements, and journal entries in compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies.
  • Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable to ensure timely settlement of obligations and collection of dues.
  • Manage petty cash and reimbursements with proper documentation and approvals.

Reporting and Compliance

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for management, board, and donor requirements.
  • Support the preparation of budget proposals and grant financial reports in coordination with program staff.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant government regulations (e.g., BIR, SEC, PCNC) and donor reporting guidelines.
  • Assist with annual audits by providing necessary documents and schedules.

Financial Systems and Controls

  • Implement internal financial controls to safeguard organizational resources.
  • Maintain proper filing and archiving of all financial records for audit trail and accountability.
  • Recommend improvements to financial processes, policies, and systems.

Collaboration and Support

  • Work closely with program teams to track project budgets, expenditures, and fund utilization.
  • Provide financial orientation and guidance to staff on compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Support the Executive Director in financial planning and decision-making.
