What is a Senior Developer?

We are a fast-growing internet service provider based in Melbourne Australia, dedicated to delivering lightning-fast, reliable internet with exceptional service experience for all customers.

Position Summary

In this role, you will be reporting directly to the Development Team Leader, with support from the Project Manager and the wider Development team. Your team is responsible for maintaining and expanding our systems both internal and customer facing.

The ability to communicate with stakeholders to understand needs and quickly translate those into functional systems key. This role is accountable for the development of new systems as well as maintenance, troubleshooting and debugging of legacy code.

What will be your main responsibilities?

This role is expected to evolve alongside organization\'s growth, offering opportunities for growth. Initially, the focus will include:

• Collaborate with the Development team and internal stakeholders to:
• Maintain and enhance existing systems with new functionality.
• Investigate and resolve reported issues.
• Guide maintenance and design of legacy and database systems/applications
• Optimize SQL queries for performance and scalability.
• Inform design of robust and secure database applications.
• Developing test cases and testing of code developed by yourself and others.
• Providing support to the wider development team.
• Communicate with internal stakeholders to accurately scope and design system requirements.
• Maintain documentation for internal systems, APIs, and databases.
• Adherence to security best practices.

What are we looking for?

Experience with the following tools (or similar) and a demonstrated ability to learn to use new packages quickly will be highly favoured:

• MAMP (Linux experience is a plus)
• Laravel
• Database design, implementation, and management experience (database systems in a subscription service industry is a plus)
• PHP
• MySQL
• GitHub
• Consuming and publishing APIs (Soap, restful, oauth, swagger)

Key selection criteria

To be considered for this role, you should be able to demonstrate:

• Strong English language skills, both written and verbal.
• Willingness to work in Melbourne (Australia) hours to align with company head office.
• Bachelor\'s Degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years’ experience in a similar role, ideally within telecommunications.
• Experience working in remote-based teams.
• Extensive experience on database design, implementation, and management (within service-based systems, ideally).
• Experience working with maintenance programming and enhancing functionality in existing systems.
• Strong understanding of SQL queries.
• Strong understanding of PHP and GitHub.
• Strong understanding of Laravel framework.
• Initiative to ‘roll up your sleeves’ and figure things out when necessary.
• Ability to problem solve and work independently and as part of the development team.
