About the Client: JOSHCO was founded in March 2004 by the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) with a mission to offer and oversee social and affordable rental housing for different household income levels, particularly those at lower income brackets, as part of the City's strategy to address its housing backlog. The organization currently manages 8,566 rental units, including social housing and unregulated rental units. Their core activities involve housing development, conversion, refurbishment, and management of city-owned rental properties, as well as the provision of turnaround strategies where needed. JOSHCO plays a crucial role in tackling the housing shortage in Johannesburg.

JOSHCO is a registered Social Housing Institution accredited by the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA), primarily serving families with monthly incomes between R3500 and R7500. They also cater to residents earning between R1500 - R15,000 in specific projects. The company's philosophy revolves around delivering quality and quantity to improve the lives of its tenants.


Job Summary: The role involves preparing and recording financial entries, maintaining subsidiary accounts, reconciling transactions, and ensuring data security by conducting database backups. The main objective is to manage general ledger activities, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting using accounting skills for effective problem-solving.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate ethical behavior, prioritize report accuracy, exhibit accountability, collaborate well in a team, and possess proficient accounting knowledge.


Responsibilities:
  • Monthly bank reconciliation
  • Bookkeeping in QuickBooks
  • Generating reports
  • Performing various tax filings

Secondary/Ad-hoc Tasks: The role may involve additional responsibilities such as managing personal transactions, updating tenants' ledger, conducting audits, and handling online payments.

Requirements: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 2 years experience in accounting, strong organizational and analytical skills, proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel, adaptability to change, attention to detail, and a degree in Accountancy, Business Management, or related fields. Excellent communication skills in English are essential.
