Job Description:
A Demi Chef (or Demi Chef de Partie) assists senior chefs in a specific section of the kitchen, contributing to food preparation, cooking, and presentation while maintaining high culinary standards. This role involves supporting the Chef de Partie, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and quality in the assigned section. The Demi Chef helps with inventory management, kitchen hygiene, and training junior staff, while actively learning and developing culinary skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook, and present dishes according to recipes and quality standards
- Assist the Chef de Partie in managing a specific kitchen section
- Ensure consistency, taste, and appearance of all dishes
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness, hygiene, and organization
- Help monitor inventory, stock levels, and ingredient freshness
- Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times
- Support training and guidance for junior kitchen staff or commis chefs
- Collaborate with other kitchen sections to ensure smooth service
- Contribute to menu planning and development under senior chefs' guidance
- Handle special requests and dietary requirements as directed
Qualifications & Skills
- Culinary education or relevant kitchen experience
- Knowledge of cooking techniques, food preparation, and plating
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills
- Willingness to learn and take direction from senior chefs
- Willing to be relocated to any Astoria Property
