About the Role

We're looking for someone with strong Python and SQL skills who is excited to transform messy data into clean, usable datasets. You'll play a key role in making high-quality data available to our analyst team, and ultimately to our clients.

As part of our growing, remote-first team, you'll report to the Director of Product and help develop and maintain the core data infrastructure that powers our analytics platform. Your primary responsibility will be writing Python and SQL code to transform raw data from client systems into clean, standardized datasets, which are then loaded into our Big Query data warehouse. We're looking for someone with a track record of building scalable data transformation processes. You should take pride in writing clean, reliable code and enjoy the challenge of making messy data usable.

• Works effectively with diverse stakeholders including school and district leaders

Other Preferred Skills and Experience

• Willingness to attend meetings during US standard business hours at least two days a week

• EdTech and/or student data experience

• Familiarity with Power BI (our analysts use this extensively)

• Experience working in a Linux environment and with Docker images/containers

What You Bring

• 3+ years of experience as a data engineer with Python and SQL as the primary toolset

• 2+ years of experience working with BigQuery (or another columnar database)

• Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming and the ability to write, maintain, and extend an application

• Proficiency with Pandas (current solution is built around Pandas)

• Demonstrable experience working with, transforming, and loading large data sets (10's of millions of records)

• Strong understanding of error handling, logging, and alerting for reliability

• Ability to write configurable and extendable ETLs

• Diligent with commenting, documentation, and version control

• Bachelor's degree required
