Job Summary:
The Mine Geologist is responsible for conducting geological assessments, mapping, and analysis to support mining operations. They provide critical geological data and guidance to ensure the efficient extraction of minerals, minimize risks, and maintain sustainable practices within the mining operation.
Key Responsibilities:
Geological Mapping & Surveying:
- Conduct geological mapping and site surveys to evaluate the distribution of ore and rock types.
- Prepare and update geological models for mining and exploration.
- Work with mine engineers to determine ore body shapes, sizes, and grade distribution.
Exploration and Resource Evaluation:
- Plan and supervise geological exploration programs, including drilling and sampling.
- Analyze core samples and geological data to assess the economic potential of mineral deposits.
- Estimate mineral reserves and resources, providing data for resource reports and feasibility studies.
Geological Support for Mining Operations:
- Provide geological advice to support mine planning and operations, ensuring the safety and efficiency of extraction.
- Advise on mining methods and strategies based on geological conditions.
- Monitor ore grades, rock stability, and geotechnical conditions to guide operational decisions.
Data Management and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate geological records and databases for exploration, drilling, and mining activities.
- Prepare detailed geological reports for stakeholders, including internal teams and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations in geological work.
Collaboration & Teamwork:
- Collaborate with other geologists, mining engineers, environmental engineers, and safety officers to ensure efficient and safe mining operations.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss geological findings and integrate data into the mine's operational plans.
Risk Assessment & Safety:
- Identify potential geohazards (e.g., rockfalls, slope stability) and propose mitigation measures.
- Ensure that all geological activities adhere to safety protocols and environmental regulations.
Monitoring and Quality Control:
- Supervise and conduct geological sampling and testing to ensure accuracy in resource estimation.
- Conduct regular geological inspections and audits of mining operations.
Technology & Innovation:
- Utilize modern geological software and technologies (e.g., GIS, 3D modeling) to support decision-making and resource management.
- Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and methodologies to improve mining efficiency and sustainability.
