  • Processing Payments: Accurately scan items, calculate totals, and process cash, credit, or mobile payments.
  • Customer Service: Greet customers, answer questions about products and store policies, and provide assistance.
  • Transaction Handling: Issue receipts, give correct change, and process returns and exchanges.
  • Register Maintenance: Count money in the register at the start and end of shifts and keep the checkout area clean and organized.
  • Promotional Assistance: Inform customers about sales, promotions, and loyalty programs.
  • Age Verification: Check for valid identification when selling age-restricted items like alcohol or tobacco.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Skills: Basic math skills, strong communication, customer service, attention to detail, and reliability.
  • Education: Typically a high school diploma or GED is preferred but not always required; on-the-job training is common.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift items.
