Senior Backend Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate production backend services end-to-end. This role requires strong expertise in backend engineering, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and operational excellence. The successful candidate will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, high-performance systems.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain production backend services (design → code → test → deploy → on-call)
• Design and maintain APIs (REST/gRPC/GraphQL) with versioning, backward compatibility, pagination, and clear error semantics
• Implement distributed system patterns: retries, circuit breakers, rate limiting, back-pressure, bulkheads, event-driven architectures
• Manage AWS cloud infrastructure, including VPC, ALB/NLB, Route 53, IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, ECS/Fargate or EKS, S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch, and optional X-Ray/OpenTelemetry
• Ensure PostgreSQL performance: schema design, zero-downtime migrations, indexing, query optimization, replication, partitioning, caching strategies
• Handle messaging and async processing with SQS/SNS, RabbitMQ, or Kafka
• Integrate Stable Diffusion XL (SDXL) for managed inference pipelines, job orchestration, artifact handling, and NSFW/safety filtering
• Define SLIs/SLOs, build dashboards, and ensure system reliability and disaster readiness
• Implement security best practices (OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, CSRF protection, TLS, KMS, Secrets Manager rotation, SOC2/ISO/GDPR awareness)
• Apply strong testing discipline (unit, integration, contract tests) and maintain CI/CD pipelines
• Write clear design docs, ADRs, and PRs, and communicate effectively with global teams

Skills & Experience

Core Engineering:

• 5+ years of experience building and operating production backend services
• Proficient in at least one: , Go, Python, Java/Kotlin, or Rust; able to review code in a second language
• Strong API design (REST/gRPC/GraphQL)
• Distributed-systems fundamentals: timeouts, retries, circuit breakers, rate limiting, back-pressure, bulkheads, event-driven architecture

AWS Cloud Infrastructure:

• Hands-on experience with VPC, ALB/NLB, Route 53, Security Groups, IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager
• Containerized deployments on ECS/Fargate or EKS; autoscaling tuned to latency/queue-depth SLOs
• S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch, optional X-Ray/OpenTelemetry
• Familiarity with WAF/Shield, VPC endpoints/PrivateLink, cost/performance guardrails

Data & Storage (PostgreSQL):

• Advanced PostgreSQL: schema design, zero-downtime migrations, indexing, query planning, lock/isolation management
• Connection pooling, read scaling, partitioning, JSONB-forward designs
• Practical caching: Redis/ElastiCache, TTLs, invalidation, cache-hit ratio monitoring

Messaging & Async Processing:

• Production experience with SQS/SNS, RabbitMQ, or Kafka
• Topic/queue design, DLQs, consumer prefetch/ack/nack, retry strategies, dedup/idempotency, poison-message handling
• Background worker orchestration for long-running tasks

Stable Diffusion XL (SDXL) Integration:

• Experience with SDXL via managed inference or self-managed GPU
• Async job orchestration with idempotent handling, timeouts, and concurrency controls
• Artifact pipeline: secure uploads, scanning, transformations, metadata, CDN invalidation, retention policies
• Familiarity with prompt handling, schedulers, and NSFW filtering

Reliability & Performance:

• Define SLIs/SLOs; create dashboards for latency, errors, saturation, queue depth, DB health
• Profiling and tuning; load/stress testing; disaster recovery readiness; participate in on-call rotations

Security & Compliance:

• OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, CSRF, secure cookies, TLS, CSP/HSTS, OWASP mitigations
• IAM least privilege, KMS encryption, Secrets Manager rotation, PII minimization, SOC2/ISO/GDPR awareness

Quality & Delivery:

• Strong testing discipline; CI/CD pipelines; automated checks and staged promotions

Communication:

• Excellent English (C1/C2); clear design docs, ADRs, PRs; calm and effective during incidents

Nice to Have:

• Payments/marketplaces, search/recommendation, content-moderation pipelines, policy-as-code, infrastructure-as-code

Requirements:

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience
• Extensive experience with AWS and PostgreSQL
• Strong English communication skills (C1/C2)
• Willingness to work onsite in Iloilo City

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: Php170,000.00 per month
