Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Medical Technologist is to perform laboratory tests across all sections of the laboratory.

Key Result Areas

1. Hematology

  • Perform phlebotomy for both inpatients and outpatients.
  • Conduct complete blood counts using automated analyzers.
  • Carry out tests to assess homeostasis and coagulation abnormalities.
  • Screen thick and thin blood smears for malaria parasites.
  • Perform reticulocyte counts and peripheral blood smear examinations.
  • Analyze various body fluids and perform differential counts.
  • Conduct quality control checks and calibrate automated instruments.
  • Maintain a daily record of workload.

2. Clinical Microscopy

  • Prepare stool smears to detect parasites and ova for fecalysis.
  • Conduct occult blood screening in stool samples.
  • Perform routine urinalysis using manual and automated methods.
  • Conduct micral tests to detect microalbuminuria.
  • Perform pregnancy testing.
  • Conduct complete semen analysis.
  • Maintain a daily record of workload.

3. Clinical Chemistry

  • Operate automated analyzers for blood chemistry tests.
  • Perform electrolyte testing.
  • Analyze various body fluids.
  • Conduct quality control checks and calibrate reagents.
  • Maintain a daily record of workload.

4. Blood Bank

  • Perform phlebotomy for patients and blood donors.
  • Conduct ABO and RH blood typing, antibody screening, and major crossmatching.
  • Prepare blood components, including fresh frozen plasma (FFP), platelet concentrate (PC), and cryoprecipitate.
  • Release blood and blood components to patients.
  • Perform direct and indirect antiglobulin tests, cold agglutinin titers, and pre-warmed blood procedures.
  • Resolve ABO discrepancies and perform difficult compatibility testing using antibody identification and phenotyping.
  • Conduct donor screening tests using the Architect I 1000SR machine.

5. Microbiology

  • Collect nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs for SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR testing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Registered Medical Technologist.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Willing to be assigned in Quezon City.
  • Available to start immediately.
