Job Description for Senior Estimator

A growing construction solutions provider is seeking a highly capable and experienced Senior Estimator. Specializing in structural repair and maintenance across residential, commercial, and industrial properties, the company is focused on increasing its capacity to deliver high-quality, complex estimations and win projects that require more than just templated pricing. As a Senior Estimator: You will play a critical role in transforming the company's estimating function into a high-performing, value-driven arm of the business. This role is ideal for someone who not only has technical estimating expertise but also brings initiative, critical thinking, and the ability to work independently. You will take full ownership of the estimating process—from reviewing plans and specifications, coordinating with suppliers, to producing high-quality, well-thought-out cost proposals.

Your Responsibilities as a Senior Estimator would be:

  • Evaluate and interpret survey data, architectural plans, and technical drawings to produce detailed estimates.
  • Prepare clear and professional cost estimates, action plans, and bills of quantities using established templates.
  • Use common sense and professional judgment to price complex, non-standard elements such as bespoke roof structures or specialized components.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to gather accurate quotations where applicable.
  • Engage in post-tender negotiations to clarify and confirm scope, pricing, and schedule.
  • Maintain estimating records and cost databases, and actively update pricing sources.
  • Mentor and support junior estimators, providing quality checks and training where necessary.
  • Participate in ongoing process improvements and template updates to improve speed, quality, and accuracy of estimates.
  • Collaborate with UK-based job owners and support teams for quality assurance and timely submissions.

Qualifications as a Senior Estimator:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-4 years experience in estimating, preferably in roofing, structural repair, or commercial construction.
  • Strong command of estimating tools and software such as AutoCAD, Primavera, Planswift, or similar.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise with stakeholders from various disciplines.
  • High attention to detail and capacity to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to use initiative and critical thinking in solving estimation problems.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and a self-starter mindset.
  • Comfortable with cloud-based systems and CRM platforms.
