Shape the Future of Game Development at Stratton Studios

Stratton Studios is an Australia-based game development company specializing in co-development partnerships with global clients across all aspects of gaming. We are looking for a talented Art Lead / Director to join our small, lean team. This is a hands-on role where you'll lead the artistic direction and production, while being deeply involved in creating and optimizing assets.

This is a fully remote position, offering the opportunity to work with a diverse team on cutting-edge gaming projects.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead the artistic direction and oversee the visual development of game projects, ensuring alignment with the overall creative vision and gameplay experience.
  • Take a hands-on approach to asset creation, from modeling and texturing to lighting and final integration into the game.
  • Define the art pipeline, ensuring efficient and high-quality production of assets, while collaborating closely with developers, designers, and technical artists.
  • Create stylized voxel environments and characters, using your strong understanding of visual storytelling to enhance immersion.
  • Mentor and guideless experienced artists, fostering a creative and productive team environment.
  • Optimize art assets for performance and platform requirements without compromising the visual quality of the game.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure a seamless integration of art and gameplay, and to troubleshoot technical art issues as they arise.
  • Oversee art reviews and provide clear, actionable feedback to artists, ensuring consistency in quality and style across all assets.

What We're Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience as an Art Lead or Art Director with a portfolio that demonstrates both leadership and hands-on asset creation in stylized voxel art and environmental design.
  • Solid proficiency in 3D modeling, texturing, lighting, and visual storytelling, with a keen eye for detail and quality.
  • Extensive experience working within Unity or similar game engines, with a deep understanding of art pipelines and optimization for various platforms.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor a small team, while maintaining a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with both creative and technical teams, as well as with external partners.
  • A proactive, problem-solving attitude with the ability to make decisions and iterate quickly in a small, dynamic team.

Bonus Skills (Preferred):

  • Experience with performance optimization techniques for 3D assets and visual effects.
  • Familiarity with shader development and advanced lighting techniques.
  • Experience with procedural content generation and AI-driven design tools.
  • Previous experience working with small teams, particularly in a remote-first environment.
