Job Description - Chemical Technician

1.     Monitors and operates the BFW (Hypochlorination, Chemical Dosing, Steam and Water Sampling, and Analysis) systems and ensures that the steam and water quality are within design limits;

2.     Performs all laboratory sampling and analyses needed for the monitoring and control of the quality of water and steam, Hypochlorination plant performance, and chemical dosing tanks;

3.     Performs special tests related to the BFW systems as required by the Management;

4.     Coordinates treatment operations with Water Laboratory Analyst, Boiler Feedwater/Laboratory Supervisor, Assistant Manager and/or Department Senior Manager to ensure that the process follows all operational, health and safety standards;

5.     Performs line checking of the system before and after turnover of shifts;

6.     Ensures that all BFW data are updated accurately;

7.     Records all activities and special incidences accurately and precisely on all log sheets and logbooks;

8.     Reports all abnormalities encountered to immediate superior for verification and findings;

9.     Issues trouble memos on all abnormalities observed;

10.  Coordinates to the maintenance personnel for activities related to the system; Discuss the nature of the maintenance work. Do proper isolation prior to the start of the activities;

11.  Conducts function tests (commissioning procedures) and several test runs of the equipment before putting it back to normal operations;

12.  Keeps records of the activities at BFW for future reference and baseline data;

13.  Maintains orderliness of all areas of responsibility;

14.  Participates in the implementation of the Chemical Management Program, including development of chemical safety programs, as well as, assisting the Assistant Manager and Chemical Supervisors in identifying risks, assessing hazards, and designing controls to ensure a healthy and safe working environment;

15.  Intensive line checking and keen observation for the need of system modification.
