Your Role
As the HR, Payroll & Workforce Compliance Manager – Australia, you will lead the end-to-end HR, payroll, roster, and wage compliance function for United Petroleum's Australian workforce while based in the Philippines. This role is critical to ensuring compliance with the Fair Work Act, Modern Awards, and all Australian employment obligations across 400+ retail sites.
You Will
Lead and ensure accurate and timely Australian payroll in coordination with the Payroll Officer
Oversee award interpretation, penalty rates, overtime, allowances, and wage calculations
Validate compliance with:
Superannuation
Annual leave and sick leave accruals
Long service leave
Termination, redundancy, and final pay entitlements
Supervise and develop the AU-facing compliance team (Payroll Officer and Deputies – Rosters & Wages Compliance)
Review and validate rosters across 400+ AU sites, ensuring compliance with:
Minimum shift lengths
Maximum hours per day/week
Fatigue management and mandatory breaks
Weekend, public holiday, night, and penalty rules
Escalate roster and wage compliance breaches to AU Operations Managers
Conduct wage audits and underpayment reviews, ensuring immediate implementation of Fair Work updates
Draft and manage Australian employment contracts, variations, and HR documentation
Support onboarding and offboarding of AU employees and commission agents
Maintain AU personnel files and HRIS data integrity
Provide first-level HR/IR and workplace relations support including:
Disciplinary processes
Investigations
Performance improvement plans (PIPs)
Documentation and procedural fairness
Ensure compliance with Commission Agent Agreements, including site audits and documentation reviews
Lead HR projects, workforce planning, performance management, and continuous process improvement
Co-sign payroll pay-runs with the CFO prior to Finance processing
What You Need
Non-negotiables
10+ years' experience in Australian payroll
Strong experience in Australian Modern Award interpretation
In-depth knowledge of the Fair Work Act, penalty rates, and wage compliance
Proven experience validating rosters against AU employment rules
Demonstrated leadership experience managing payroll and compliance teams
Preferred skills/expertise
Experience supporting AU retail, fuel, QSR, or hospitality industries
Background in BPO or Shared Services supporting Australian clients
Experience managing a small, compliance-focused team
Strong stakeholder management skills with AU-based leaders
