Job Description

The Quantity Surveyor (Electrical / MEP) is responsible for measurement, estimation, cost control, and contract administration related to all electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and related services for construction projects. The role will ensure that project electrical/MEP scopes are costed, billed, and monitored accurately — from tender to final accounts — and support procurement and project teams to maintain project budget and profitability.


Key Responsibilities
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and scope for electrical / MEP works.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs and prepare Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for electrical/MEP systems.
  • Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and cost plans for materials, labor, subcontracted works.
  • Evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations; assist procurement with bid analysis and vendor selection.
  • Monitor project expenditures vs. budget — track actual costs, change orders, variation orders, and prepare periodic cost reports.
  • Prepare periodic billing, progress claims, interim valuations, and final accounts for MEP/ electrical works.
  • Provide value-engineering suggestions and cost-saving recommendations without compromising safety/standards.
  • Coordinate with project engineers, site engineers, architects, and contractors to ensure scope alignment and project compliance.
  • Maintain cost data, material/labor rates, and update cost library for estimating future projects.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
  • Licensed Engineer (Electrical or Mechanical) strongly preferred for electrical/MEP QS roles.
  • At least 2–5 years experience in quantity surveying / cost estimation for electrical or MEP scopes. Some postings show recent hires at 1–3 years.
  • Proficiency in cost estimating/ QS software (e.g., Bluebeam, CostX, PlanSwift) and MS Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical / MEP drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and good understanding of electrical materials, labor rates, and market costs.
  • Good communication, coordination, and negotiation skills; able to liaise with site teams, contractors, management.
