Job Summary

The Quantity Engineer is responsible for cost planning, measurement, and financial control of construction projects from pre-contract through post-contract stages. The role ensures that projects are delivered within approved budgets while maintaining contractual and commercial compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Construction / Tender Stage

  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
  • Assist in cost planning, budgeting, and feasibility studies.
  • Evaluate tender documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations and prepare bid comparisons.
  • Support value engineering and cost optimization exercises.

Construction Stage

  • Monitor project costs, cash flow, and cost forecasts.
  • Prepare interim valuations, progress billings, and payment certifications.
  • Manage variations, change orders, and claims in accordance with contract provisions.
  • Verify subcontractor measurements and payment applications.
  • Track material quantities, wastage, and site consumption.

Post-Construction / Close-Out

  • Prepare final accounts and reconcile project costs.
  • Assist in contract close-out and documentation.
  • Support dispute resolution and claims negotiations if required.

General Duties

  • Maintain accurate cost records and commercial documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with contract conditions, company policies, and applicable standards.
  • Coordinate with project managers, site engineers, designers, and procurement teams.
  • Provide cost reports and commercial advice to management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
  • 2–3 years of relevant experience (depending on seniority).
  • Experience in building, infrastructure, or industrial projects preferred.
  • Familiarity with standard forms of contract (FIDIC, NEC, JCT, or equivalent).

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of construction methods and materials.
  • Proficiency in quantity take-off and cost estimation.
  • Advanced skills in Excel; experience with cost management or QS software is an advantage.
  • Solid understanding of contracts, variations, and claims management.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and negotiation abilities.
