Data Center Engineer

Summary:
To support the uninterrupted operation of the data center infrastructure, optimize its performance, ensure security, and contribute to the achievement of organizational goals related to data storage, processing and delivery.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Bachelors Degree, Graduate of Electrical Engineering, ECE and Licensed Engineer
Relevant Experience:
1. Willing to work in Converge and on-site.
2. Open to work on call and Monday to Friday (8am 5pm), rest day on Saturday & Sunday and on monthly night shift schedule.
3. Knowledge of basic tools, construction practices and communication networks.
4. Knowledge of cable installation practices, tracing cables, lacing, etc.
5. Knowledge of fiber optic cable types, make-up of fiber optic cables, and specifications.
6. Knowledge of various manufacturers ISP racks, cabinets, ladder rack, fiber guide and termination panels.

Business Understanding:
1. Knowledge of cable testing procedures and test equipment.
2. Knowledge of inside plant safety measures.
3. Knowledge of data center security processes and adhere to the measures they put in place.
4. Knowledge of various network equipment like Servers, Switch, routers, etc.
5. Basic knowledge of electrical concepts and terms. it's an advantage, but not a
requirement
6. Good work ethics and a willingness to learn.
Technical Knowledge:
1. Should have a deep understanding of the various components that make up a data center, including servers, storage systems, networking equipment, power distribution units (PDUs), uninterruptable power supplies (UPS), cooling systems, and physical security measures. This includes knowledge of different server architectures, storge technologies, network topologies, and industry best practices for data center design and layout.

Areas of Responsibility

1. Infrastructure Availability

2. Responsible for network integration and acceptance.

3. Performs industry standard throughput testing.

4. Handles circuit activation and provide appropriate configurations of CPE prior to deployment.

5. Monitor mateline application for deployment and provide support to ensure continuity and availability of all network services.

6. Network and client troubleshooting and fault analysis

Measurement Criteria

QUANTITATIVE CRITERIA

• Percentage of uptime, measured as the total time the data center infrastructure is operational divided by the total time in a given period. (e.g. 99.9% uptime)

QUALITATIVE CRITERIA

• Incident response time, measured as the average time taken to identify and resolve infrastructure-related incidents, ensuring minimal impact on operations.

Efficiency and Cost Optimization

QUANTITATIVE CRITERIA

• Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), measured as the ratio of total energy

consumed by the data center (including servers, cooling, and other infrastructure) to the energy consumed by the IT equipment alone (e.g., aiming for a PUE of 1.5 or lower).

QUALITATIVE CRITERIA

• Process improvement initiatives, assessed by identifying and implementing measures to optimize data center workflows, reduce waste, and enhance overall operational efficiency

Capacity Planning and Scalability

• Rack utilization rate, measured as the percentage of rack resources being utilized compared to the total available capacity (e.g., maintaining rack utilization rate above a specified threshold).

• Capacity forecasting accuracy, assessed by comparing projected resource needs with actual usage patterns, ensuring the data center can scale to meet future demands efficiently.
