Duties & Responsibilities

  • Guest Interaction: Greet customers warmly, present menus, and assist with menu selections by answering questions and making recommendations.
  • Order Management: Accurately take and enter food and beverage orders into the Point of Sale (POS) system.
  • Service Delivery: Deliver food and drinks to tables promptly and professionally, ensuring presentation and quality.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Check in with guests, address complaints, and ensure a positive dining experience.
  • Payment Processing: Handle payment transactions, including splitting checks, processing cash and credit cards, and issuing receipts.
  • Table Maintenance: Clean, reset, and prepare tables between seatings to maintain a flowing and organized dining area.
  • Teamwork: Assist colleagues by helping to seat guests, run food, or perform other tasks during quieter periods.
  • Side Work: Complete assigned "side work" such as rolling silverware, polishing glasses, refilling condiments, and performing opening/closing duties.
  • Sanitation and Safety: Adhere to all sanitation, safety, and food safety standards, including checking for legal drinking age when serving alcohol.

Requirements

  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, a friendly demeanor, and a positive attitude are essential for customer service.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to enter orders accurately into a POS system and handle transactions.
  • Knowledge: Must have comprehensive knowledge of the menu, including ingredients, specials, and potential pairings.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, stand for extended periods, and carry items.
  • Attention to Detail: Crucial for accurate order taking, proper table setting, and maintaining cleanliness.
  • Teamwork: Willingness to collaborate with kitchen staff, other servers, and management.
  • Education: While not always required, a high school diploma is often preferred by employers.
  • Experience/Training: Many employers provide on-the-job training to teach specific procedures and tasks.
  • Age: Must meet legal age requirements to serve alcohol and handle money.
