Occupational Health Nurse

GENERAL
Ø The Company Nurse is responsible for promoting, maintaining, and safeguarding the health and wellness of employees in the workplace. In coordination with the Human Resources Department, the nurse provides first aid and medical care, assists in health-related programs, ensures compliance with occupational health and safety standards, and supports HR in implementing wellness initiatives, medical documentation, and employee health-related concerns.
CORE RESPONSIBILITY:
A. DIRECT CARE
Perform nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the prevention of illness or injury, as well as in the treatment and rehabilitation of both occupational and non-occupational illnesses (applicable to employees at the head office and those assigned to clients, plants, or other work areas).
Provide prompt emergency care, including assessment of all occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses. Refer employees to a physician when necessary. Ensure safe transportation of seriously ill or injured employees, with follow-up and documentation performed in line with company policies and standing medical orders signed annually by the facility physician.
Administer treatment for occupational injuries and illnesses under the direction of the physician.
Provide competent nursing care for minor non-occupational illnesses and injuries in accordance with Medical Standing Orders. Refer employees to their personal physician for further treatment when needed.
Administer prescribed medications within authorized limits, and assist employees with ongoing health conditions in managing their work within the framework of their limitations.
Review and assess employee health screening results. Provide guidance and counseling to employees with ongoing health concerns to help them cope effectively.
Assist in the design and implementation of health and wellness programs.
Conduct systematic follow-ups on medical absences, both occupational and non-occupational.
Organize and maintain an efficient and effective Employee Health Service.
10. Assess employees returning to work to determine their fitness and ability to perform job duties.
B. HEALTH RISK MANAGEMENT / HEALTH CARE COST MANAGEMENT
1. Identify employee health risks through health risk assessments and health screenings.
Track individual health data using methods that also enable analysis aggregate data.
Enhance employee knowledge through general health education programs, communications and environmental awareness.
Educate new employees about their responsibility in the management of healthy lifestyle habits.
Work with the business teams in "Managing for Health".
Align with appropriate business functions to evaluate health care costs and develop cost-containment strategies focusing on health interventions.
Consult with business teams to enhance productivity through lifestyle initiatives.
Facilitate a business environment that supports a healthy lifestyle.
C. ENVIRONMENTAL / RISK ASSESSMENT
Environmental / risk assessment involves health status assessment and environmental evaluation/interpretation and follow-up of findings along with disease prevention, control and research.
Have knowledge of the hazardous systems, chemical properties and health hazardous materials in the facility.
Identify and plan for acute exposures to hazards.
Identify areas of potential environment risks.
Be involved with risk management team in emergency and disaster planning and related information sharing.
Maintain awareness of any current occupational health risk by conducting periodic walk-through surveys of all areas of the office, observing jobs, processes, equipment, work practices and work environmental condition.
Collaborate with the Human Resources Team, safety officer and/or other key members of the occupational health team.
Maintain familiarity with specific jobs in the site, including physical requirements and the potential for contributing to injury of employees.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY: MANAGEMENT/ADMINISTRATION
Application of management theory in organizing, equipping, maintaining and evaluating employee health service.
Participate in the formulation and utilization of administrative procedures.
Select order and maintain supplies and equipment consistent with the needs and standard of the COMPANY and with consideration of cost control.
Maintain and effective, accurate medical record system that will identify individual and Company health and safety programs as well as provide essential date cases of litigation.
Provide for periodic evaluation of the health service program and make recommendations for improvement of services to the management.
Maintain health service log of activities.
