Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role located in Makati City, Philippines. The Underbar Associate will support the firm attorneys in various legal tasks under close supervision. The Underbar Associate will be responsible for handling a wide range of legal matters, including corporate transactions, tax, energy, real estate, litigation, intellectual property, and advisory services. Daily tasks may involve legal research, drafting legal documents, assisting clients in court, and advising on legal issues.

This entry-level role is ideal for law graduates and bar takers who are eager to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting. The position offers exposure to practical legal work, mentorship from experienced lawyers, and the potential for advancement upon passing the bar exam.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough legal research on Philippine laws, jurisprudence, and relevant case precedents using online databases, libraries, and other resources.
• Assist in drafting legal documents, such as contracts, pleadings, memoranda, and correspondence, under the guidance of supervising attorneys.
• Support case preparation by organizing files, summarizing depositions, and compiling evidence for litigation and transactional matters.
• Attend client meetings, court hearings, and depositions as an observer to gain practical insights into legal proceedings.
• Perform administrative tasks, including managing case calendars, filing documents with courts or government agencies, and coordinating with external parties.
• Collaborate with the legal team on special projects, such as compliance reviews or due diligence for corporate transactions.
• Stay updated on legal developments and contribute to internal knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Handle other ad-hoc duties as assigned to ensure smooth firm operations.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from an accredited Philippine law school
• Strong academic record with a solid foundation in core legal subjects, including civil procedure, criminal law, commercial law, and constitutional law
• Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills, with proficiency in legal citation styles
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office/Google Suite and legal research tools
• High level of integrity, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and team members
• Willingness to commit to full-time work in Makati City; prior internship experience in a law firm is a plus but not required
