Job Description

As a Verification of Benefits Supervisor, you will lead and guide a team to ensure operational efficiency, accuracy, and compliance in medical billing processes. You'll coach, train, and motivate team members to achieve departmental goals while driving excellence and innovation in every task.

The Qualifications We Seek

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing and collections.
  • Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience managing a team of more than five people.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes.
  • Understanding of HIPAA and related privacy laws.
  • Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and insurance industry processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (formulas, pivot tables, filters).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with the independent dispute resolution process.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience with PowerBI and other MS Office tools.

  • Professional appearance and conduct.
  • Punctual, reliable, and able to handle urgent weekend tasks.
  • Must maintain high-speed internet that meets remote work requirements.

Your Daily Tasks

  • Promote department goals by motivating, coaching, and training team members.
  • Train new employees on department policies, procedures, processes, and information systems.
  • Plan and prioritize schedules, assign tasks, and monitor work to optimize operations.
  • Analyze claim reports to identify cases eligible for arbitration.
  • Ensure timely submission of all cases and completion of ineligible disputes.
  • Submit informal negotiations and briefs promptly.
  • Monitor incoming requests and ensure timely responses.
  • Evaluate staff performance and audit work for compliance.
  • Inform staff of policy, procedure, system, and regulatory updates.
  • Gather and analyze departmental metrics and prepare management reports.
  • Recommend process and system improvements to enhance quality and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with upper management for progress updates.
  • Participate in and monitor process improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with external vendors (DOI, NSA personnel, arbitrators/IDRE) for issue resolution.
  • Maintain attendance and payroll records; ensure timely time-off processing.
  • Handle escalated issues and urgent after-hours or weekend tasks.
  • Complete and oversee special projects and other assigned duties.
