Scope of Work for Project Engineer – Electrical & Automation Engineer

As a Project Manager, the Project Engineer (Electrical & Automation Engineer) plays a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of electrical and automation-related tasks in the project. Below is the detailed Scope of Work for the Project Engineer – Electrical & Automation Engineer:

  1. Project Planning & Coordination

Assist in developing the project execution plan for electrical and automation systems.

Review and interpret electrical drawings, automation schematics, specifications, and technical documents.

Coordinate with other disciplines (mechanical, civil, instrumentation) to ensure seamless integration of electrical and automation systems.

Participate in project meetings with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to discuss progress, issues, and solutions.

  1. Electrical Design & Engineering

Ensure electrical system designs meet project specifications, industry standards (e.g., IEC, NEC, IEEE), and regulatory requirements.

Design and specify power distribution systems, motor control centers (MCCs), transformers, circuit breakers, and control panels.

Conduct electrical load calculations and short circuit studies.

Ensure proper cable sizing, grounding, and protection systems.

  1. Automation & Control System Design

Develop automation architecture, including PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems.

Ensure correct selection, programming, and configuration of automation hardware and software.

Implement control logic, alarms, and data logging systems.

Design communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet) for integration with existing systems.

  1. Procurement & Material Management

Assist in the preparation of technical specifications for electrical and automation equipment procurement.

Review supplier/vendor proposals and ensure compliance with project requirements.

Coordinate inspection, delivery, and storage of electrical and automation materials.

  1. Site Supervision & Installation

Oversee the installation of electrical panels, wiring, cable trays, and automation systems.

Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety regulations, and project specifications.

Verify contractor's work progress against the project schedule and approved design.

Ensure proper grounding, insulation, and protection systems are installed.

  1. Testing, Commissioning & Troubleshooting

Develop and oversee electrical and automation testing procedures, including:

Insulation resistance testing

Voltage and current testing

PLC/SCADA function tests

Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)

Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and automation issues during installation and commissioning.

Verify system performance through final inspections and acceptance tests.

  1. Documentation & Reporting

Prepare and maintain electrical and automation project documentation, including:

Electrical and automation schematics

Test and inspection reports

Operation and maintenance manuals

As-built drawings

Provide regular updates to the Project Manager and stakeholders on progress and issues.

  1. Handover & Post-Project Support

Ensure all electrical and automation systems are completed, tested, and operational before handover.

Assist in preparing maintenance and operation manuals for electrical and automation systems.

Train client personnel on system operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

  1. Compliance & Safety

Ensure all electrical works comply with safety and environmental regulations.

Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions for electrical and automation hazards.

Enforce electrical safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
