Role Summary:

The Commodity Manager is responsible for managing assigned PCBA commodities and suppliers, ensuring alignment with company KPIs and technical standards. This role blends commercial strategy with deep technical expertise in SMT processes, PCBA manufacturing, and product engineering to support robust, cost-effective, and high-quality supply chain operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continuity of Supply & Technical Readiness
  • Ensure uninterrupted supply of PCBA components and assemblies to support factory and service center operations, aligned with the master production schedule and technical build plans.
  • Cost Management with Technical Insight

Drive YoY cost reductions by leveraging technical understanding of SMT processes, BOM optimization, and yield improvement strategies. Co-own commodity cost KPIs with the Commodity Manager.

  • Supplier Performance Management

Monitor and manage supplier metrics across Quality, Delivery, and Cost, with a focus on technical compliance, process capability, and defect reduction in SMT and PCBA production. Source and technically evaluate new suppliers for PCBA and SMT capabilities, ensuring alignment with product engineering requirements, IPC standards, and cost-effective manufacturability. Support the Commodity Manager in resolving technical issues, managing escalations, and driving root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality or delivery failures. Lead periodic business reviews and executive meetings with suppliers, incorporating technical performance data, process audits, and engineering feedback.Conduct technical audits on potential and existing suppliers, focusing on SMT line capability, process controls, ESD compliance, and traceability systems.Support NPI initiatives by identifying technically capable suppliers for quick-turn PCBA builds, ensuring DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and cost competitiveness.

  • NPI & Quick Turn Supplier Enablement
  • Partner with other Commodity Managers to develop commodity strategies, supplier roadmaps, and technical approval processes.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering, Quality, R&D/NPI, and Operations to align supplier capabilities with product requirements and innovation goals.
  • Participate in material selection, process qualification, and technical reviews to ensure robust supply chain integration.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support strategic procurement activities with technical insights.
  • Develop lean, responsive suppliers with strong SMT and PCBA capabilities.
  • Track supplier certifications and ensure compliance with AE's technical standards.
  • Assist in price negotiations with technical cost breakdowns and process benchmarking.
  • Manage contracts with a focus on technical deliverables and service levels.
  • Oversee First Article Inspection (FAI) and technical validation processes.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including technical support for cross-functional initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Preferred: Master's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering Management, or Business Administration with a technical emphasis.
  • Certifications (optional but advantageous):
  • IPC-A-610 / IPC-J-STD-001 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies)
  • Six Sigma Green/Black Belt
  • Certified SMT Process Engineer (CSMTPE)
  • APICS CPIM or CSCP (for supply chain integration)
