Job Purpose

The Equipment Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the Equipment Engineering function to ensure that manufacturing equipment operates at peak performance, reliability, and cost efficiency. This role involves driving strategic initiatives that focus on enhancing equipment capabilities, implementing preventive maintenance, and fostering continuous improvement, all in alignment with the company's business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

The manager develops and implements long-term strategies for equipment engineering and maintenance to effectively support production goals. These strategies are carefully aligned with the broader organizational objectives and adhere to industry best practices, ensuring the engineering function drives business success.

Operational Excellence

A core responsibility is to oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs, to maximize equipment uptime and operational efficiency. The manager ensures strict compliance with quality standards, calibration requirements, and safety regulations. Additionally, the role requires monitoring key performance indicators, such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and leading initiatives to continuously improve these metrics.

Resource Management

The manager is accountable for managing departmental budgets, overseeing the inventory of spare parts, and allocating resources for various equipment-related projects. Coordination with internal teams—such as Production, Planning, and Purchasing—is essential for efficient equipment transfer, optimal utilization, and effective cost control.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement

The role involves promoting Total Quality Management (TQM) principles and leading projects that drive process improvements. The manager fosters the development of local capabilities for equipment modification, design, and the integration of new technologies to maintain a competitive edge.

People Development

Building and mentoring a high-performing team of engineers and technicians is a key element of the role. The manager defines comprehensive training plans and competency development programs to ensure that technical staff possess the necessary skills and expertise.

Qualifications

Education

A bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering is required, with a master's degree preferred.

Experience

Candidates should have a minimum of 8–10 years of experience in equipment engineering or maintenance within the semiconductor or electronics manufacturing industry. At least 3–5 years of experience in a leadership position, managing large teams and complex projects, is also required.

Skills and Competencies

The manager must demonstrate strong leadership, effective communication, and advanced project management skills. Expertise in preventive and predictive maintenance systems, as well as equipment optimization, is essential. A thorough knowledge of industry standards and compliance requirements is also necessary.
