Duties and Responsibilities

1. Key Responsibilities

a. Plans hospital routine diet as well as implements meal preparation for hospital admitted patients.

b. Coordinates with the physician and other health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of the patients.

c. Formulates menus for therapeutic diets based on medical and physical condition of patients and integrates patient's menus with basic institutional menus.

d. Inspects meals served for conformance to prescribed diets as well as for standards of palatability and appearance.

e. Instructs patients or patient's relative regarding the patient diet modification and restriction.

f. Supervise the hospital food service.

g. Records the number of meals served to the patient, other hospital staff and guest.

h. Assess patient nutritional needs and developed a specific diet plan based on the patient medical condition.

i. Make everyday rounds for patients nutritional assessment.

2. Administrative Responsibilities

a. Coordinate with the Head Chef to oversee kitchen inventory and ensure availability of supplies for daily meal preparation.

b. Create work schedules to ensure that there are adequate staffs to cover each shift.

c. Establish the critical level for kitchen supplies and stocks.

d. Makes a weekly projection of supplies needed in the Dietary unit based on the number of patients admitted.

e. Make a monthly projection of supplies needed in the unit based on the total number of admission per month and established the stocking pattern based on peak and learn month of hospital admission.

f.  Assist in overseeing the proper use of stocks and supplies for hospital needs in coordination with the Executive Chef, ensuring pilferage is prevented.
