A Wastewater Operator operates a system of machines in order to collect, transfer and treat wastewater. This role involves tasks like operating pumps, filters, and control systems, testing water samples, adding and removing chemicals, inspecting equipment, and recording data.

Job Responsibilities:

System Operation & Monitoring

· Operate pumps, valves, filters, and control systems to treat wastewater

· Monitor SCADA systems and adjust processes to maintain optimal performance

Sampling & Testing

· Collect and analyze water samples for pH, turbidity, chlorine, and biological content

· Record test results and adjust chemical dosing as needed

Maintenance & Repairs

· Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems

· Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and respond to alarms

Compliance & Reporting

· Maintain accurate logs and prepare reports for regulatory agencies

· Ensure operations meet local, state, and federal environmental standards

Safety & Environmental Stewardship

· Follow OSHA and EPA guidelines for handling chemicals and biosolids

· Promote safe work practices and participate in safety training

Qualifications:

· High school diploma or GED

· Associate degree in Environmental Science or related

· State-issued Wastewater Operator Certification (Class C/B/A)

· CPR, First Aid, OSHA 10/30 certifications

· Mechanical aptitude and basic lab skills

· Experience with SCADA systems and lab instrumentation

· Ability to work rotating shifts and on-call

· Familiarity with activated sludge, UV, and chlorination
