Job Summary:

The Electrical Engineer – Project Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for electrical projects, including commercial, industrial, and infrastructure developments. This role requires strong technical knowledge of electrical systems, analytical skills for cost analysis, and the ability to interpret design specifications, drawings, and project requirements. The estimator collaborates closely with engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure competitive and accurate bids.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and related documents to develop detailed cost estimates for electrical systems and components.
  • Review electrical designs, drawings, and blueprints to determine material, labor, and time requirements.
  • Prepare bills of quantities, cost breakdowns, and tender documents.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations for materials and services.
  • Identify potential risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving alternatives.
  • Support the project team during bidding, negotiation, and contract award phases.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure alignment between design and cost estimates.
  • Maintain a database of historical cost data, vendor pricing, and market trends.
  • Assist in project budgeting, forecasting, and post-project cost analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and company policies.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in electrical estimating, preferably within the construction, power, or industrial sectors.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems (power distribution, lighting, controls, etc.).
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Bluebeam, Trimble, or equivalent) and MS Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit is an asset.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy under deadlines.

Preferred Skills & Attributes:
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation is an advantage.
  • Experience with design-build or EPC projects.
  • Knowledge of local electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEC, or relevant national standards).
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management abilities.
