Core responsibilities

  • Follow blueprints: Read and interpret building plans to guide construction and installation.
  • Measure and cut: Accurately measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, and other materials.
  • Construct frameworks: Build and install structural elements like walls, floors, and roof frames.
  • Install fixtures: Install a wide variety of items such as doors, windows, stairs, cabinetry, and molding.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance: Repair existing structures and fixtures as needed, which can include maintenance carpentry tasks.
  • Use tools: Safely and effectively operate a wide range of hand and power tools, from saws and chisels to levels and framing squares.
