Software Developer

Remote | MST After-Hours Availability | Full-Time

Reports to: CTO / Head of Technology

We are looking for a versatile Software Developer (PHP, IoT, AI) who can contribute to our technology roadmap while providing light after-hours support to remote field locations. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about building modern web applications, IoT dashboards, and integrating emerging AI technologies — while also being comfortable troubleshooting hardware issues for non-technical users (typically 1–2 support calls per week).

This role is 80% software development and 20% support.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities (80%) — Software Development

Web & Dashboard Development

• Build and enhance IoT monitoring dashboards using PHP (Laravel) and modern JavaScript frameworks ).
• Develop responsive front-end interfaces using HTML5, CSS3, Tailwind CSS, and JavaScript.
• Integrate telemetry data via MQTT, REST APIs, WebSockets, and other IoT communication protocols.
• Design and develop new product features, modules, and automation tools.

AI & Automation

• Integrate AI features into dashboards using Python, OpenAI API, and related technologies.
• Develop scripts, microservices, or Lambda functions for data processing and automation.
• Participate in R&D initiatives to evaluate new AI/ML technologies and innovative approaches.

Cloud & DevOps

• Work with AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, CloudWatch) for backend systems and automation.
• Use Docker for local development and deployment workflows.
• Collaborate using Git/GitHub and CI/CD pipelines.

Documentation & Collaboration

• Create and maintain documentation for dashboards, scripts, and integrations.
• Collaborate closely with the CTO and cross-functional teams.

Secondary Responsibilities (20%) — After-Hours Support

Work hours are MST after hours following training.

This support is low volume (typically 1–2 calls per week).

• Answer after-hours calls/texts from remote worksites (drilling rigs) and assist non-technical users with equipment issues.
• Use internal dashboards and monitoring tools to diagnose equipment remotely.
• Review historical tickets, notes, and prior resolutions to replicate fixes.
• Troubleshoot equipment from the backend and verify each device on-site is functioning properly.
• Resolve issues when possible and update tickets with clear, detailed notes.
• If on-site work is required, escalate and create dispatch tickets for field technicians.
• Call back the site to confirm the issue is resolved.

Proactive Monitoring

• Review active jobs every 3 days to identify anomalies or backend concerns and document findings.
• No configuration or network changes should be made after hours unless the issue is critical.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Requirements

• Strong experience with PHP (Laravel).
• Proficiency with JavaScript (ES6+), , HTML5, CSS3, Tailwind CSS.
• Experience integrating with MQTT, REST APIs, WebSockets, and device telemetry systems.
• Comfort with Python for AI scripts and automation tasks.
• Experience with OpenAI API or other AI/LLM technologies.
• Solid skills in AWS cloud services (Lambda, API Gateway, S3).
• Experience with Docker, Git, and modern development workflows.

Soft Skills & Communication

• Strong English communication skills — speaking, reading, writing.
• Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical field staff.
• Calm, patient, and methodical troubleshooting approach.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Curious, innovative, and comfortable with experimentation and R&D.

Experience with any of the following hardware vendors is an asset:

• Starlink

Experience with remote hardware support or connectivity in harsh/remote environments (e.g., drilling rigs) is also an asset.
