An Electrician in the water and wastewater treatment industry is responsible for ensuring that all electrical systems (motors, pumps, controls, instrumentation, and SCADA systems) operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with standards—keeping the treatment plant running continuously.

Educational Background

-High school diploma or equivalent (required).

-Completion of a technical/vocational course in Electrical Technology, Industrial Electricity, or a related field (preferred/required by many employers).

  • Apprenticeship program or formal training in electrical installation and maintenance.

  • Licenses & Certifications

  • Licensed/Registered Electrician (as required by local regulations, e.g., PRC in the Philippines or State License in the US).

  • Certification in Electrical Safety/OSHA standards.

  • Training in PLC, VFD, and SCADA systems (advantage in water/wastewater industry).

  • First Aid and CPR certification (often preferred).

Technical Skills

-Strong knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

-Experience in installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining motors, pumps, MCCs, and control panels.

-Familiarity with PLC programming basics, instrumentation, and automation systems.

-Ability to use electrical testing tools (multimeter, megger, clamp meter, etc.).

-Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices.
