About the Role

This is a critical, dual-focus role for an experienced professional comfortable operating as both a
senior RPG Developer
and a
System Administrator
within the IBM AS/400 (iSeries) environment. You will be the linchpin, ensuring applications are optimized, production systems run flawlessly, and we strategically evolve our core platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain applications using
    RPG (III/IV/ILE), CL, and SQL/DB2
    .
  • Perform essential system administration: performance tuning, security, user provisioning, backups, and job scheduling.
  • Develop, debug, and troubleshoot complex batch jobs, triggers, and stored procedures.
  • Resolve production issues swiftly, analyzing root causes and deploying fixes with zero disruption.
  • Partner with business and technical teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Actively participate in modernization, migration, and enhancement projects.
  • Maintain comprehensive system documentation (flows, code changes, operational runbooks).
  • Ensure rigorous compliance with IT audit standards and security policies.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 5+ years
    of dedicated, hands-on experience on IBM AS/400 / iSeries platforms.
  • Expert programming proficiency in
    RPG (RPGLE preferred), CL, and SQL/DB2
    .
  • Proven experience in
    system troubleshooting, debugging, and performance tuning
    .
  • Deep understanding of core iSeries concepts: database structures, file systems, subfiles, batch/interactive processing.
  • Experience in
    production support
    environments with defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Ability to efficiently analyze and optimize or re-write complex legacy code/logic.

Good-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with API integration and/or platform modernization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with cloud-migration strategies for iSeries workloads.
  • Exposure to industry domains utilizing AS/400 (Banking, Retail, Manufacturing, Healthcare).
  • Knowledge of Git or other modern Source Code Management (SCM) tools.
