Overview

Apex Investment Administration New Zealand is looking for a Senior Report Writer to join its Cloud Data Platform (CDP) team. This role is vital in supporting over $140 billion in assets by designing, enhancing, and modernizing data pipelines and reporting solutions. You will help ensure that investment and wealth management clients receive accurate, secure, and timely data—while also driving innovation in our reporting capabilities.


Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain robust reports and dashboards using SQL, Power BI, and SSRS.
  • Develop and manage domain models for financial data, ensuring smooth integration into the CDP.
  • Safeguard data quality and security through automated testing, peer reviews, and proper documentation.
  • Mentor junior team members and champion best practices in reporting and data engineering.
  • Partner with stakeholders and central data teams to deliver solutions aligned with business needs.
  • Manage multiple projects, provide accurate effort estimations, and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Actively engage in Agile ceremonies, contributing to team planning and delivery improvements.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Advanced SQL expertise with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience in reporting and dashboard development (SSRS, Power BI).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control tools (Git).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage stakeholder expectations effectively.

Preferred / Nice to Have
  • Experience with the Azure ecosystem (DevOps, Data Factory).
  • Knowledge of data modelling and ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Fivetran).
  • Familiarity with data platforms such as Snowflake and dbt.
  • Understanding of data governance, RBAC, data masking, and financial industry practices.
