Process Engineer

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Industrialize and optimize optics fabrication processes with focus on CNC polishing equipment and conventional beveling, centering, and milling machines.
• Support production ramp-up by stabilizing processes, improving yield, and increasing throughput.
• Develop, debug, and optimize CNC programs, machine parameters, and polishing recipes to meet optical and dimensional requirements.
• Design, evaluate, and improve tools, fixtures, and workholding for precision optics manufacturing.
• Lead equipment analysis and troubleshooting, identifying mechanical, software, tooling, and process-related issues.
• Transfer processes from development or pilot builds into volume manufacturing with robust controls.
• Implement process error-proofing (poka-yoke) solutions to prevent defects and ensure process consistency.
• Establish SPC, control limits, and monitoring systems to detect and prevent process drift.
• Create and maintain manufacturing documentation including process flows, work instructions, control plans, PFMEA, and Agile-based documentation.
• Collaborate with Production, Quality, Equipment, and Engineering teams to resolve yield, quality, and throughput challenges.
• Support operator and technician training during deployment of new or improved processes.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering field.
• 3–7 years of experience in precision manufacturing, preferably in optics or ultra-precision machining environments.
• Hands-on experience with CNC programming, including process debugging and optimization in a production setting.
• Proven experience in tool and fixture design for precision machining or polishing processes.
• Strong background in equipment performance analysis and troubleshooting (mechanical, controls, and process-related issues).
• Demonstrated experience supporting process industrialization and production ramp-up.
• Solid foundation in Industrial Engineering principles including capacity planning, line balancing, workflow optimization, and cycle time analysis.
• Experience with SPC, Cp/Cpk, PFMEA, root cause analysis, and process error-proofing methodologies.
• Familiarity with cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environments is preferred.

Working Conditions

• 100% on-site role in an optics fabrication manufacturing facility.
• Hands-on work in production areas, machine shops, and cleanroom environments.
• Frequent interaction with CNC and conventional machining equipment.
• May require extended hours or schedule flexibility during production ramp-up and critical builds.
• Compliance with safety, ESD, and cleanroom protocols is required.
