Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead process industrialization for optics fabrication (polishing, grinding, coating, cleaning, and metrology) to support production ramp-up.
  • Transfer processes from development or pilot lines into high-volume manufacturing with stable yield and throughput.
  • Define and optimize process parameters, tooling, fixtures, and equipment settings to meet optical performance and quality requirements.
  • Develop and release manufacturing documentation including process flows, work instructions, control plans, and PFMEA.
  • Establish process controls, SPC, and monitoring systems to ensure repeatability and defect reduction.
  • Drive yield improvement, cycle time reduction, and cost optimization through data-driven root cause analysis.
  • Support equipment qualification, acceptance, and process capability studies (IQ/OQ/PQ, Cp/Cpk).
  • Collaborate closely with R&D, Quality, Equipment, and Production teams during ramp-up and ongoing operations.
  • Lead troubleshooting of process excursions and nonconformances, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support training of operators and technicians during process deployment and scale-up.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3–7 years of experience in optics fabrication or precision manufacturing, with hands-on involvement in process industrialization and production ramp-up.
  • Demonstrated experience transferring processes from development/pilot to volume manufacturing.
  • Strong background in process optimization, capacity planning, line balancing, and workflow design (Industrial Engineering focus).
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC), process capability analysis (Cp/Cpk), PFMEA, and root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with optics manufacturing processes such as grinding, polishing, coating, cleaning, and optical metrology is highly preferred.
  • Experience working in a high-mix, low-to-medium volume or scaling manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, Equipment, and Operations teams during ramp-up phases.

  • Agile documentation and execution (user stories, acceptance criteria, sprint planning, backlog management)
  • Experience working in Agile or hybrid Agile–manufacturing environments
  • Equipment qualification and process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ)
  • Data analysis and decision-making using manufacturing KPIs
  • Cross-functional collaboration with R&D, Quality, Equipment, and Operations teams
  • Clear technical communication for operators, engineers, and stakeholders
  • Work effectively with other members of Coherent Corp.

Working Conditions

  • 100% on-site role in an optics fabrication manufacturing facility.
  • Hands-on work in production areas, cleanroom, and laboratory environments.
  • Regular interaction with manufacturing equipment, tools, and metrology systems.
  • May require extended hours or shift flexibility during production ramp-up and critical builds.
  • Must be able to comply with cleanroom, safety, and ESD requirements.
