Cloud DevOps Engineer

Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. OpenShift Platform Management & Operations (Hybrid Cloud):

● Design, deploy, and maintain highly available and scalable RHOCP clusters across

various environments (on-premises, public cloud, and bare metal).

● Manage RHOCP day-2 operations, including patching, upgrades, capacity planning, and

troubleshooting cluster-level issues.

● Implement and manage GitOps practices (e.g., using ArgoCD or Flux) for continuous

deployment of platform configurations and applications.

● Ensure seamless connectivity and resource management between on-premises and

cloud-based OpenShift components.

2. CI/CD and Automation:

● Develop, maintain, and optimize robust CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab

CI/CD, Tekton (OpenShift Pipelines), or similar, specifically tailored for containerized

applications on OpenShift.

● Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration across the hybrid landscape using

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and OpenShift

Templates/Operators.

● Develop custom automation and scripting (Bash, Python, Go) for repetitive tasks and

system integration.

1. Containerization and Microservices:

● Provide expertise in container runtime (Docker/CRI-O) and Kubernetes/OpenShift best

practices for application deployment, scaling, and networking (e.g., OpenShift SDN/OVN,

Ingress Controllers/Routes).

● Work closely with development teams to containerize applications and define OpenShift

manifests (DeploymentConfigs, Services, Routes, etc.).

● Implement service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio/OpenShift Service Mesh) for

microservices communication and traffic management.

4. Monitoring, Logging, and Observability:

● Implement and manage comprehensive monitoring and alerting solutions for the RHOCP

platform and hosted applications using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and the

OpenShift Monitoring stack.

● Set up centralized logging and log aggregation using the ELK Stack/EFK Stack

(Elasticsearch, Fluentd/Loki, Kibana/Grafana Loki) for effective troubleshooting and

auditing.

● Establish observability practices to track application performance, availability, and

resource utilization.

5. Security and Compliance (DevSecOps):

● Integrate security into the CI/CD pipeline (Shift Left) by implementing automated scanning

for vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and compliance checks (DevSecOps).

● Manage role-based access control (RBAC) and security context constraints (SCCs) within

OpenShift to enforce least-privilege principles.

● Ensure the RHOCP platform and deployed applications adhere to corporate security

standards and regulatory compliance (e.g., network segmentation, secret management).

6. Collaboration and Mentorship:

● Collaborate with application development, network, and security teams to resolve

complex issues and ensure operational readiness.

● Document processes, best practices, and playbooks for the OpenShift platform and CI/CD

systems.

● Mentor junior team members and promote a DevOps culture of automation, shared

responsibility, and continuous improvement.

Required Skills and Qualifications

● Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a DevOps, Cloud, or Site

Reliability Engineering role.

● [X] years of hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform

(RHOCP) - preferably versions 4.x/latest.

● Expertise in Kubernetes and container orchestration.

● Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or similar tools.

● Proficiency with Ansible for configuration management and automation.

● Experience in designing and managing CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, Tekton, GitLab

CI/CD).

● Solid understanding of networking concepts in a cloud and containerized environment

(VPCs, firewalls, load balancing, DNS).

● Proficiency in at least one scripting/programming language (Python, Bash, or Go).

● Familiarity with public cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Microsoft Azure, or GCP) and their

services.

● Strong knowledge of Linux system administration.

Preferred (Nice to Have) Qualifications

● Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration/Development or other relevant

certifications.

● Experience with GitOps tools (e.g., ArgoCD, Flux).

● Familiarity with hybrid cloud networking and storage solutions.

● Experience implementing Service Mesh (e.g., Istio, Kiali).

● Experience with logging and monitoring tools like Splunk, Dynatrace, or New Relic.

● Knowledge of security best practices in a containerized environment (CIS benchmarks,

security scanning).
