DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans occupational therapy program involving such activities as manual arts and crafts, practice in functional prevocational and homemaking skills and activities of daily living, and participation in a variety of sensory-motor, educational, recreational, and social activities designed to help patients regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to their handicaps.
- Consults with other team members of the rehabilitation team to select most appropriate activity program consistent with needs and capabilities of each patient and to coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities.
- Selects constructive activities suited to individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest in order to upgrade the patient to maximum independence, prepare the patient for eventual return to some form of employment, assist in restoration of particular and muscular functions, improve general physical condition, and aid in adjustment to disability.
- Teaches patients skills and techniques required for participation in activities and evaluates patients' progress, attitudes, and behavior as related to their rehabilitative potential.
- Adapts program according to needs of individual patient.
- Provides routine, sedentary tasks for overactive patients and stimulating tasks for depressed patients to hasten rehabilitation.
- Attempts to create socially normal atmosphere to aid recovery and lessen disciplinary problems.
- Judges' program's interest value by patients' reactions and adapts activity accordingly to provide outlets for the tensions of the mentally ill.
- Remains emotionally stable so as not to create nervous reactions in certain types of patients.
- Studies patients' reactions while they are engaged in work situations and prepares reports reflecting their reactions to activity program for review by other members of the therapy team.
- Requisitions supplies and equipment. Lays out materials for patients' use and cleans and repairs tools at the end of therapy sessions.
- Directs activities of one or more assistants or volunteer workers. May conduct training programs or participate in training medical and nursing students and other workers in occupational therapy techniques and objectives. May design, make, and fit adaptive devices, such as splints and braces for patient use following medical prescription.
- Performs other tasks that may be given by the superiors from time to time.
JOB SPECIFICATION:
Education:
- Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy with validated license issued by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) of the Philippines, and member of the accredited national organization for OT.
Trainings:
- Completed the Internship program
Work Experience:
- At least six (6) months of experience in the rehabilitation department.
Skills:
- Has the ability to understand medical terminologies and how it applies to physical therapy, communicate with patients, staff, and physicians, and to prepare and keep reliable reports and evaluations.
- Has interest of working with different types of people in physical rehabilitation program and desire to help people to regain their physical functions.
- Capable of performing in situations that requires direction, control, or planning of an activity of others to initiate and conduct therapy program.
- Can deal with different types of people and activities to affect patients' improved adjustment and to motivate them to initiate or continue physical therapy.
- Must be physically and mentally fit and possess pleasing personality with moral and ethical behavior.
- Must be able to form conclusions reflecting patients' progress on basis of both sensory or judgmental criteria and measurable or verifiable criteria, indicated by their reaction to therapy activities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Lifting and carrying equipment, supplies, and materials.
- Talking and hearing to convey instructions and information to patients and staff members. Visual acuity to perceive reactions to treatment and to read instructions.
- Works inside the Hospital.
