Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Nurse – Job Description
Position Summary
The ICU Nurse provides specialized nursing care to critically ill and high-risk patients. The role includes continuous monitoring, administering complex treatments, operating life-support equipment, and ensuring safe, high-quality patient care following hospital and DOH standards.
Key Responsibilities
Continuously monitors vital signs, hemodynamics, neurological status, and patient condition.
Administers medications, IV infusions, blood products, and specialized treatments.
Operates and manages ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, and other ICU equipment.
Performs critical nursing procedures (suctioning, central line care, tracheostomy care, wound care).
Responds to emergencies and participates in Code Blue and rapid response situations.
Ensures strict infection control, isolation precautions, and patient safety protocols.
Documents assessments, interventions, and progress notes accurately and timely.
Coordinates with physicians and the healthcare team for patient management.
Provides support and updates to patient families based on hospital guidelines.
Job Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid PRC license.
Graduate of BS Nursing.
With at least 1 year of clinical experience, preferably in ICU or critical care.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in critical care nursing, emergency room, or high-acuity units.
Training or certification in:
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Critical Care Nursing
IV Therapy Certification
Skills & Competencies
Strong assessment and clinical judgment skills.
Proficient in operating ICU equipment (ventilators, monitors, pumps).
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Able to work under pressure in fast-paced, high-stress environments.
Compassionate, patient-centered, and detail-oriented.
Adheres to hospital policies and Data Privacy Act requirements.
Other Requirements
Willing to work on shifting schedules, weekends, and holidays.
Physically and mentally fit for demanding critical-care duties.
